# Syntax

> The tokens every command understands: people, projects, dates, sources, tags and refs.

Keel commands read like a sentence. Words become the title; special tokens add the details, in any order.

```text theme={null}
owe send pricing deck @ravi due:thu +acme/website from:slack:https://acme.slack.com/archives/C1/p2 #legal
```

| Token | Means | Example |
| - | - | - |
| plain words, or `"quoted text"` | The title or name | `send pricing deck` |
| `@name` | A person (created the first time you use it) | `@ravi` |
| `@me` | You: a promise to yourself, shown as "for myself". Only with `owe` | `@me` |
| `+client/project` | A project | `+acme/website` |
| `+client` | A whole client, as a filter | `ls +acme` |
| `due:` | A due date | `due:thu` |
| `from:` | Where the promise came from | `from:meeting` |
| `#tag` | A free tag | `#legal` |
| `c12`, `p3`, `i5` | Refs: a commitment, a project, an inbox item | `done c12` |
| `--json` | Machine-readable output | `ls --json` |

## Dates

| You type | Means |
| - | - |
| `due:today`, `due:tomorrow` | Today, tomorrow |
| `due:mon` to `due:sun` | The next such weekday |
| `due:eow` | End of this week |
| `due:+3d`, `due:+2w` | In 3 days, in 2 weeks |
| `due:2026-10-20` | That date |

Natural phrases work too, quoted: `due:"next friday"`.

## Sources

`from:meeting`, `from:slack`, `from:email`, `from:claude`, `from:other`. Add a link after a colon, such as `from:slack:` followed by the message link, and `show` makes it clickable.

## Fields you can set

Used by `set`, `switch` and `park`. Quote values with spaces: `title:"send revised deck"`.

| Key | Used for |
| - | - |
| `title:` | A commitment's title, or a project's name |
| `due:` | A commitment's due date |
| `status:` | `open`, `done`, `dropped` for a commitment; `active`, `paused`, `done`, `archived` for a project |
| `slug:` | A project's or client's short name |
| `where:`, `next:`, `unsure:` | The three parts of a resume note |
