# The Keel shell

> One session where every line is a Keel command.

Run `keel` on its own (or `keel shell`):

```bash theme={null}
keel
```

Keel shows its logo and your `today`, then waits at a prompt that shows the project you're working on, in its client's color:

```text theme={null}
acme/website › owe send pricing deck @ravi due:thu
✓ c1 I owe Ravi · Thu 15 Oct · acme/website
```

## What you can do

| Key or command | Does |
| - | - |
| Any Keel command | Runs it, without the `keel` prefix |
| Tab | Completes commands, `@people`, `+projects`, refs and `due:` dates |
| ↑ / ↓ | Earlier commands, kept between sessions |
| Ctrl+C | Cancels the line or the current question |
| Ctrl+L, or `clear` | Clears the screen |
| `exit`, or Ctrl+D | Leaves the shell |

Commands that ask questions, such as `switch` and `meeting`, ask them right there in the shell.

`serve`, `db` and `completion` run from your normal terminal instead, since they start servers or change where your data lives.

> [!TIP]
>
> History lives in `~/.keel/history`, readable only by you.
